1. Stage Manager
Stage Manager (System Settings, Desktop and Dock) organizes open windows into groups on the left of the screen. Click any group to bring it to focus. It transforms multitasking on larger displays and is particularly useful when working with many applications simultaneously.
2. Continuity Camera
Your iPhone is a better webcam than most external webcams. Mount your iPhone above your MacBook screen using a MagSafe mount (available for around $30) and it activates automatically as your camera in any video call application. Portrait mode and Center Stage both work.
3. Hot Corners
System Settings, Desktop and Dock, Hot Corners assigns actions to the four corners of your display. Moving your cursor to a corner triggers the action instantly — useful for Mission Control, locking the screen, or activating the screensaver.
4. Text Replacement
System Settings, Keyboard, Text Replacements lets you create short codes that expand into full text. Type your initials and they expand to your full name. Type a short code and it expands to your email address. A significant time-saver for frequently typed text.
5. Quick Look with Markup
Select any file in Finder and press Space to preview it. Press the pencil icon in the preview to annotate a PDF, crop an image, or add a signature — without opening any application. Quick Look markup works on PDFs, images, and several document formats.
6. Universal Clipboard
Copy something on your iPhone and paste it directly on your Mac, or vice versa. Requires Handoff enabled in System Settings and both devices signed into the same Apple ID. Works instantly without AirDrop.
7. Spotlight Calculations and Conversions
Press Command and Space to open Spotlight, then type any calculation or unit conversion. Spotlight returns the result immediately. Type 32 Fahrenheit in Celsius or 15 USD in EUR and get instant answers.
8. Focus Filters
System Settings, Focus lets you create custom focus modes with different notification filters, app arrangements, and Safari tab groups. Work mode shows only work applications and mutes personal notifications. Set a schedule to activate each mode automatically.
9. Path Bar in Finder
View, Show Path Bar displays a breadcrumb trail of your current folder location at the bottom of every Finder window. Click any level in the path to navigate there immediately. Much faster than pressing the back button repeatedly.
10. Word Count Anywhere
Select any text in any application on macOS Ventura or later and right-click. The context menu shows a live word and character count without copying to a word processor. Useful for emails, social media posts, and any text with a length requirement.
