Performance

Apple Silicon has changed the performance comparison significantly. For creative workloads — video editing, photo editing, music production — Macs with M4 chips outperform Windows laptops costing considerably more. For gaming, Windows remains the clear choice: broader game library, superior GPU options, and higher frame rates at equivalent prices.

Software Availability

macOS is the preferred platform for creative professionals: Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and the general quality of Mac software is consistently high. Windows has broader business software compatibility, better support for specialist industry tools, and an enormous gaming library. If your job requires specific Windows software the choice is straightforward.

Price and Value

Windows hardware spans from $300 budget laptops to $5,000 workstations. Entry-level Macs start at $999 with the MacBook Air M3. At the premium end — $1,500 and above — Macs frequently offer better value per dollar than equivalent Windows laptops because Apple controls both the hardware and software.

Longevity

Macs receive macOS updates for seven to eight years after release. Windows PC longevity varies by manufacturer. Apple's tight hardware and software integration means Macs tend to remain fast longer. A 2019 MacBook Pro still runs current macOS comfortably in 2025.

Our Recommendation

Choose Mac if you work in video, design, music, or software development and want the best laptop experience available. Choose Windows if you game seriously, need specific Windows-only software, or want greater hardware choice and price flexibility.
